2022 Sidewise finalists

Finalists for the 27th annual Sidewise Awards, for works of alternate history, have been announced. Winners will be announced during this year’s World Science Fiction Convention, Chicon 8, to be held Sept. 1-5, 2022, in Chicago.

Last year’s winners were The Door to Eden by Adrian Tchaikovsky and “Moonshot” by Matthew Kresal.

This year’s long form finalists are all first time Sidewise nominees. For short form, this is Rick Wilber’s third nomination, Alan Smale’s third nomination (he won in 2011), and Matthew Kresal’s second nomination (his first won last year). (Complete tallies.)

2022 Prometheus winners

Winners of the 42nd annual Prometheus Awards, for libertarian science fiction, have been announced. Formal presentation of the awards will occur online in late August.

Last year’s winners were The Hook by Barry B. Longyear and “Lipidleggin'” by F. Paul Wilson. A complete list of winners is here.

These are the first nomination and first win for Wil McCarthy, the eighth win and 11th nomination for Robert A. Heinlein. (Complete tallies.)

Note that for the Hall of Fame Award, a novel or story may be nominated again and again until it wins. As it happens, Rudyard Kipling’s story “As Easy as A.B.C.” has been nominated every year since 2006 and has never won.

2022 Clarke finalists

This the 36th year the Arthur C. Clarke Award, a juried award for best SF novel published in the UK, will be presented. The winner will be announced October 26th.

Last year’s winner was The Animals in that Country, by Laura Jean McKay.
