2023 British Science Fiction Association (BSFA) Awards Shortlist

Finalists for this years British Science Fiction Association Awards have been released. Winners will be announced at Conversation, this year’s Eastercon, held April 7 – 10 in Birmingham.

Last year’s winners were Adrian Tchaikovsky, Aliette de Bodard, Xiran Jay Zhao (all three nominees again this year), Francesca T. Barbini, and Iain Clark.

The BSFA Awards have been presented since 1970, when the winner in just one category was John Brunner’s Stand on Zanzibar.

2023 Stoker Finalists

Finalists for this year’s Bram Stoker Awards have been announced. Winners will be honored at StokerCon 2023, to be held June 15-18, 2023, in Pittsburgh PA.

The Bram Stoker Awards, for works of horror, have been presented since 1988 by the Horror Writers Association. Last year’s winners included Stephen Graham Jones, Ellen Datlow, and many others. This year’s awards include, for the first time, a category for “Middle Grade Novel.”

2022 Endeavour Award Finalists

Finalists for the Endeavour Award for works published in 2021 (and thus indicated as the 2022 awards in this database, despite belated voting) have been announced. No awards were voted or awarded during 2021 or 2022.

The previous Endeavour Award, announced in 2020 for works published in 2019, was a tie between Matthew Hughes’ What the Wind Brings and Louisa Morgan’s The Witch’s Kind

The Endeavour Award is for the best SF or fantasy book by a writer living in the Pacific Northwest, and has been awarded since 1999.

This year’s winner will be announced at Norwescon 45, to be held in SeaTac WA, April 6 – 9 2023.

2023 Compton Crook Award Finalists

Finalists for this year’s award, for best SF/fantasy/horror novel of the year, have been announced. The winner will be announced April 10, and presented at the annual Balticon in Baltimore, 26-29 May 2023.

Last year’s winner was A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark.

2023 Crawford Award Winner and Shortlist

The winner of this year’s Crawford Award, presented annually by the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts for a first book of fantasy (novel or collection) published the previous year, is Simon Jimenez’s The Spear Cuts Through Water. The award will be presented at the International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts in March 2023.

A shortlist was also announced, with works by Maya Deane, Naseem Jamnia, Alex Jennings, and Jacob Kerr.
