2023 Seiun Awards Winners

Winners of this year’s Seiun Awards in the translated novel and translated story categories are the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov, and, in a tie, Sarah Pinsker’s “Sooner or Later Everything Falls into the Sea” and Cixin Liu’s “The Wandering Earth.”

2023 Mythopoeic Awards Winners

Winners of this year’s Mythopoeic Awards, given annual since 1976 to works of fiction and nonfiction that exemplify the spirit of the Inklings — J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and Charles Williams — were announced last weekend at the Mythopoeic Society’s online seminar.

The winners are books by Sacha Lamb (a first-time nominee and winner), Kelly Barnhill (first-time winner with two nominations this year), Paul S. Fiddes (first-time winner, also nominated last year for the same work), and Brian Attebery (now three-time winner out of four nominations).

2023 World Fantasy Awards Finalists

Finalists for this year’s World Fantasy Awards for works published in 2022, as well as winners of this year’s Life Achievement Awards, have been announced. The Life Achievement Awards will go to Peter Crowther and John Douglas. The awards will be presented at this year’s World Fantasy Convention in Kansas City MO the weekend of October 26 – 29, 2023.

Notable among the finalists are works with multiple nominations and wins for other awards.

R.F. Kuang’s Babel has won the Nebula and Locus Awards, and is a finalist for the Ignyte Awards. Alex Jennings’ The Ballad of Perilous Graves won the Compton Crook Award, is pending for a Mythopoeic Award, and was a finalist for the Locus and Crawford Awards. Nicola Griffith’s Spear was nominated for a Nebula, placed 5th in the Locus Poll, and is pending for the Le Guin Prize. And C.L. Polk’s Even Though I Knew the End won a Nebula, placed 2nd in the Locus Poll, and is pending for the Hugo, Ignyte, and Aurora Awards

In addition, Sam J. Miller’s collection won a Locus Award, and the Africa Risen anthology won a Locus Award and is pending for the British Fantasy Awards.

2023 British Fantasy Awards Shortlists

Winners in twelve categories will be announced during FantasyCon, to be held Sept. 15 – 17, 2023, in Birmingham, UK.

2023 Cordwainer Smith Award

This year’s award went to Josephine Saxton.
