2023 Clarke Award Shortlist

Finalists for this year’s Arthur C. Clarke Award, given annually since 1987 to the best SF novel published each year in the UK, have been announced.

This year’s authors are all first-time finalists for the award. (And only Swift and de Bodard have any previous entries in this entire database.) The winner will be announced in London on August 16, 2023.

Last year’s winner was Harry Josephine Giles’ Deep Wheel Orcadia.

2023 Sturgeon Award Finalists

This year’s finalists for the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award, given annually since 1987 for the best short science fiction story, have been announced. The winner will be announced in September 2023 at the second annual Sturgeon Symposium.

Last year’s winner was “Broad Dutty Water: A Sunken Story” by Nalo Hopkinson.

2023 Aurealis Awards Winners

Winners of this year’s Aurealis Awards, given to recognize the best of Australian science fiction, fantasy, and horror, include works by TR Napper, Amanda Kool, Grace Chan, Angela Slatter, Kirstyn McDermott, Aiki Flinthart, Trent Jamieson, Aaron Dries, and Geneve Flynn.

2023 Ignyte Awards Finalists

Finalists for this year’s Ignyte Awards, which “seek to celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of the current and future landscapes of science fiction, fantasy, and horror by recognizing incredible feats in storytelling and outstanding efforts toward inclusivity of the genre,” have been announced. Public voting is open until June 30th. Winners will be announced in October.

Last year’s winners included P. Djèlí Clark, Darcia LIttle Badger, Eden Royce, Shingai Njeri Kagunda, and Peng Shepherd, among others.

2023 Kitschies Shortlists

Finalists for this year’s Kitschies, given to “the year’s most progressive, intelligent and entertaining fiction that contain elements of the speculative or fantastic,” have been announced. Winners will be announced June 24, 2023, at a ceremony in Bradford, England.

Last year’s winners were Becky Chambers, Hilary Leichter, and Julia Lloyd.
