Citations Complete, for now

http://www.sfadb.com/Citations_Directory

3840 new and updated pages.

Extensive citations from 10 key references are now completely installed. The 10 sources are indicated by (2) following their titles on the Directory page linked above. These additions total 4976 individual citations, entailing 3519 unique books by 1274 different authors. Of the 1274, 397 are authors new to this database.

The citations installed today were compiled as far back as 2005, but have required research to identify basic bibliographic information — year published, country, and publisher of 1st edition where possible — for all 3519 titles. Both SFE and isfdb.org, having expanded greatly over this period, have become key resources for this task.

The total number of citations, from the 60 sources listed on the Directory page, is now 11030, entailing 4650 unique books by 1597 different authors. The authors with the most citations are Heinlein (181), Dick (158), Asimov (155), Wells (133), Silverberg (123), Le Guin (123), Clarke (113), Aldiss (110), Ballard (100), Pohl (98), and Bradbury (98).

This completes, for now, the first of four long-planned expansion phases of sfadb.com. (There will doubtless be additional citation sources to compile in the future.) The next phase will be to combine these citations with the awards data to generate timelines and ranked lists of significant book titles from across the history of science fiction and fantasy. The final two phases will compile much more anthology reprint data, and apply the same analysis to short fiction.
