This massive three-volume encyclopedia edited by Westfahl includes two volumes of essays about themes of science fiction and fantasy, and a third volume of essays on "classic works", including books, films, and TV shows, most written by numerous contributors (with many by Westfahl himself). A number of the book entries represent entire series, e.g. Pratchett's The Colour of Magic for the entire Discworld series.
